Reertification Icon Child Welfare Law Specialist Annual Reporting

To remain in good standing as a CWLS, each year you must submit an annual report to NACC that contains three questions regarding disclosure of conduct.  You must also submit a $120 annual fee.  The annual report and fee are not required in the calendar year in which you are certified or in the year of recertification.  Please note, you are required to submit notice of any disciplinary action to NACC as soon as permitted by law, not just on the annual report.

Do not fill out the forms above if this is your RECERTIFICATION year. Please see below.

Reertification Icon About Child Welfare Law Specialist Recertification

Your NACC certification as a Child Welfare Law Specialist is valid for five years, at which point certified attorneys must apply for recertification. Recertification is required by the ABA to help ensure the integrity of specialization by requiring certified attorneys to demonstrate continued substantial involvement in their area of specialization.

The Recertification Application Process

CWLS recertification involves an abridged application process that does not require a writing sample or examination. The recertification fee is $300 and includes your annual maintenance fees (NACC and ABA). Any outstanding fees must be paid before you can apply for recertification.

The required documents include:

  • The recertification application itself
  • Your public and private disciplinary history
  • A listing of the required CLE hours (You may use the form below or submit a transcript as long as the course titles and sponsors are detailed enough to be determined dependency-related.)
  • Your resume/CV evidencing your continued involvement in child welfare law.  (You may also apply for a Substantial Involvement Waiver by submitting a detailed summary of your work as a judicial officer, firm supervisor, administrator, policy advocate, etc.)

NACC will solicit responses from the references you list in your recertification application.  Once all components have been submitted and reference responses have been collected, your application will be sent to the CWLS Certification Committee for review and approval.

Below, you’ll find the fillable recertification application, as well as a selection of applicable standards and forms to help with the recertification process.
