Lawmakers consider a last-minute effort to make child death files secret [LA Times]

In 2008, California passed landmark legislation requiring child protective services agencies to release records when a youth dies of abuse or neglect. However, California Department of Social Services Director Will Lightbourne has quietly introduced a bill that would gut key portions of the original law.
