The Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovation Act (S 1542/HR2883)
The "Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovations Act" amends title IV-B of the Social Security Act to extend the Child Welfare Services program (CWS, Title IV-B, part 1) and the Promoting Safe and Stable Families program (PSSF, Title IV-B, part 2). These two programs provide both discretionary funding (funds appropriated each year by Congress) and mandatory funds (funds written into the law). In Federal FY 2011 CWS provided approximately $281 million in discretionary funds and a total of $428 million in PSSF funds ($365 in mandatory funding and $63 million in discretionary funding).
