NEW BOOK ON REPRESENTING JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDERS
Available for FREE for a Limited Time

Published by the ABA Center on Children and the Law, this book is the first of its kind to offer a roadmap for attorneys representing status offenders (also called children, persons or families in need of services or assistance). Each chapter, written by an expert in the field, gives legal advocates the tools to successfully engage and represent youth in status offense proceedings who have run away, are truant or ungovernable. It will help advocates develop strong relationships with their clients and ultimately avoid deeper involvement in the juvenile justice system. This book includes chapters on: *Using federal law to support advocacy *Understanding and using social science research to work with status offenders *Accessing intervention services *Pre-and Post adjudication strategies *Using special education advocacy in status offense cases *Crossing over to other family court proceedings Author Contributors: Hannah Benton, Shay Bilchik, Jana Heyd, Erika Pinheiro, Claire Shubik, Tobie J. Smith, Martha Stone, Casey Trupin, and Joseph B. Tulman
