Helping Foster Kids Succeed, One Laptop at a Time [KQED News]

From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Jeremy Goldbach at the University of Southern California’s School of Social Work conducted a study of the impact that laptops had on 730 foster kids age 16 to 21 in four California counties. The study showed that after receiving lap tops, foster kids received higher grades, missed fewer days of school and work, and increased their pursuit of college and employment. Dr. Goldbach also saw a change in social connectivity and improved relationships with biological and foster families. Now, a partnership of small California nonprofits is levelling the technology playing field by connecting foster kids with laptops.
