Punitive Justice Systems

 

The American Sociological Review published a study linking states with more punitive-based judicial systems to higher number of children in foster care versus those states with less punitive systems. Doctoral student Frank Edwards, studying at the University of Washington analyzed state data from 2002-2011 in exploring the connections between foster care placement and approaches to criminal justice and welfare.
