National Child Abuse Prevention Month

The month of April is designated each year to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect and encourage support of vulnerable children and their families. As child advocates, the members of the National Association of Counsel for Children know the deep and lasting effects of child maltreatment. We call for all Americans to understand and defend the interests of children in our society, protecting their safety and promoting their well-being.

Our legal systems often intervene in the life of a child only after harm has occurred, yet as advocates we should also work to strengthen and support families before a crisis affects a child. We help to prevent child abuse and neglect whenever we advocate for strong families and healthy communities, and whenever we improve the public systems that respond to child maltreatment, family poverty and community violence.

In different ways, each of us can contribute to preventing child abuse and neglect. As a child advocate, make a tax-deductible contribution to NACC's legal and policy advocacy by clicking here.

As a community member, visit the Prevent Child Abuse America website to participate in Child Abuse Prevention Month activities.

Thank you for what you do for America's children and youth, this and every month!
