Fall 2010 Internship - Part-time Compensation: Unpaid or Academic Credit About the NACC: In today’s world millions of children are the subjects of judicial proceedings each year. They are involved in the court system as victims of abuse and neglect, as juvenile offenders, as subjects of custody, visitation and adoption proceedings, and as participants in civil damages litigation. Our mission is to improve the lives of children and families by ensuring that these proceedings produce justice. Specifically, our mission is to: (1) Strengthen the Delivery of Legal Services for Children, (2) Enhance the Quality of Legal Services Affecting Children, (3) Improve Courts and Agencies Serving Children, and (4) Advance the Rights and Interests of Children. Internship General Description: The intern assists with substantive legal matters in conjunction with the Staff Attorney / Resources Director. Specifically, these responsibilities include managing and updating the NACC’s National Children's Law and Advocacy Resource Center, responding to resource requests, handling referrals, conducting research, writing case summaries for The Guardian, and assisting in the administration of the NACC's Amicus Curiae program. Specific Primary Responsibilities: National Children's Law and Advocacy Resource Center – • Provide attorney referrals the general public • Respond to resource requests from NACC members and the public • Legal Research • Assist in the maintenance, improvement, organization and expansion of reference library Amicus Curiae Program – • Assist with the administration of amicus curiae requests • Help with research and drafting of briefs The Guardian – • Assist in selecting cases and writing case summaries for the NACC’s quarterly publication, The Guardian. Specific Secondary Responsibilities: • Assist with other NACC programs, such as the Attorney Specialty Certification program and the Children’s Law Office Program • Assist in planning and execution of the NACC National Conference • General administrative tasks Qualifications: Minimum of 1 year of law school completed; demonstrated interest in child welfare law Application deadline(s): Open until Filled
