Faculty: This 5-day training of the NCAC Forensic Interview model is presented by experienced professionals who are also current practitioners.

Forensic Interviewing of Children Training will include:

Foundational sessions NCAC Forensic Interview model, including:

  • Forensic conversations with children
  • Child forensic interview structure
  • A developmental perspective
  • Children in active disclosure
  • Children reluctant to disclose

Legal issues (presented by a senior attorney from the NDAA):

  • Corroboration of child abuse cases
  • Memory and suggestibility
  • Defending interview in court

Skill-based sessions:

  • Child interview practicum: practice interview with a real child
  • "Slow-motion" interview practice session: practice of actual case with an actor through the entire interview protocol
  • Case studies
  • Mock Court

Who Should Attend: This training is specifically designed for child interviewers who have responsibility for initial investigative/forensic interviews of children. It is appropriate for professionals from the fields of child protective services, law enforcement, and those affiliated with a Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) with:

  • less than one year of full-time experience
  • need a refresher on the current model
  • have worked in the field for a number of years but have not received formal training
