What is the National Association of Counsel for Children?
The NACC was founded in 1977; the early years of the development of our child abuse and neglect court systems. Our goals were to promote quality legal representation of children at a time when children rarely received legal representation, and to build a practice of law for children. Over three decades later, the NACC remains dedicated to its original goals, and has expanded to include training and technical assistance for all attorneys and court personnel in dependency, delinquency, and family law cases. The NACC is also active in court improvement efforts and promoting national and local policy and legislation that serves children and families.
The NACC is a non-profit charitable and professional membership organization headquartered in the Kempe Center on the campus of the Children's Hospital in Colorado. The NACC is a multidisciplinary organization with over 2,000 members representing all 51 jurisdictions and several foreign countries. Membership is comprised primarily of attorneys that represent children, parents, and agencies as well as judges. Other members include professionals from the fields of medicine, social work, mental health, education, and law enforcement. The NACC focuses on the provision of training and technical assistance to juvenile and family court professionals.
